New York, USA, 1949
Wenda Parkinson, the photographer’s muse and wife, photographed from the inside of the bar of the historic Sherry-Netherland Hotel in New York. The Sherry Netherland has been at this site since 1927 and is known throughout the world by its iconic sidewalk clock. This image is from a 1949 fashion shoot for Vogue, and is one of the few Norman Parkinson images printed as a cover for both the US and British editions of the magazine. Wenda is wearing a wool flannel suit by Handmacher matched with a hat made by Betmar.
